Some were I think very smart at extracting goodies from their patrons.<br /><br />Freda - I wonder if people have stopped believing. We still 'touch wood' for luck and wear something borrowed, something blue as brides. In WWII there was a group of witches who worked their magic to prevent Hitler from invading, and on the Nazi side, there was great interest in the occult.
